Sometimes it's useful to have an RSS feed that you can put in your online course or on a web page (or access via any of the many RSS Feed Readers out there - Feedly is a good beginner's choice), and then it updates itself with new content as that content comes out. In some of the databases we subscribe to, you can create an RSS feed for a particular publication (like a journal or magazine) or for a search. A publication RSS feed will update every time a new issue comes out. A search RSS feed will update every time there is new content that matches the criteria set by your search.
Many of our databases come from two vendors: ProQuest and EBSCOhost. Below, I will explain how to create an RSS feed in both.
After you log into the ProQuest database with your college login and password, you will need to log into your ProQuest My Research account. If you have not created one before, you will need to create one. (It is free.) Here is more information on the My Research Account.
Do a Publication Search by going to the gray menu bar and clicking Publications. Then enter the title, enclosed in quotation marks, into the search bar. This will probably be a journal or magazine title.
In the search results list, click the title of the publication you want to get to the publication information page.
Under the header where it says Publication Information, click Create RSS Feed.
Copy the URL of the RSS feed and paste it wherever you want it.
Do a keyword search for the exact topic that you want. You may find Creating A Concept Chart and Boolean Operators helpful in crafting a search that brings in all the results you want, without too many irrelevant ones.
On your search results page, just under the search button, click Save Search/Alert and select Create RSS Feed.
Copy the URL of the RSS feed and paste it wherever you want it.
After you log into the EBSCOhost database with your college login and password, you will need to log into your My EBSCOhost account. If you have not created one before, you will need to create one. (It is free.) Here is more information on the My EBSCOhost Account.
