woman borrowing stack of library booksSUNY Empire students, faculty, and staff are welcome to borrow print books at SUNY, CUNY & NYS community college libraries using the SUNY Open Access Policy or CUNY Open Access programs.

To take advantage of these programs, you will need your SUNY Empire photo ID card. You must have this card to borrow books at these libraries; a driver's license or other ID will not be accepted. Some libraries will not allow you in the door without this ID card.

Locate the participating library nearest you, search their collection online, and contact them if you would like to confirm access and availability of the item you need. Ask to speak to a librarian at the circulation desk if a staff member is not familiar with open access; some student workers and others may not have knowledge of the program.

Be aware, if you do not return items you borrow through Open Access, that library will contact us and a hold will be placed on your SUNY Empire student account affecting your ability to graduate or register for classes until you have cleared your account. In addition, libraries sometimes refer outstanding debts to the state attorney general's office for collection.
