Most library-related questions can be answered via a spontaneous 5-10 minute live chat, a phone call, or a quick email to a librarian.
These reference services will usually get you your answers within a few minutes or a few hours.
When is scheduling a 30-minute consultation the better choice?
A consultation with a librarian allows you to explain in greater detail what you need, what you've tried, and where you are struggling.
With details you provide before your appointment, the librarian can do some advance preparation to make the best use of your time.
Consultations might begin with a Microsoft Teams meeting and include follow-ups via Teams or email.
If a Teams meeting isn't feasible for you during available appointment hours, we can conduct the consultation entirely via email. In that case, just email librarian@sunyempire.edu with specifics, and we will put you in touch with a librarian who can help you.

Jennifer Collins (she/her) provides consultative, instructional, and outreach services to promote faculty, student, and staff engagement with open educational resources and open pedagogy. She partners with university stakeholders to advance course material affordability initiatives including OER and low or no-cost textbook alternatives. She also provides scholarly publishing support, including assisting faculty with OER publication opportunities and other scholarly publishing needs, such as repository and research support. Faculty, students and staff are all welcome to book time with Jennifer for these or any other library or research questions.

Sara Hull (she/her) is often the first librarian students and new mentors will meet through library orientations, and she is the "voice" behind the library's social media presence. Her educational background is in English literature & composition, women's & gender studies, education, and theatre. Sara manages our reference services and is the liaison to Opportunity Programs, the Veteran & Military Resource Center, Student Success, Academic Support, 1Stop Student Services, and New Mentors. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to book with Sara to discuss these or any other library or research questions they may have.

Dana Longley (they/them) coordinates the library's information literacy and library instruction initiatives and is happy to consult with students or faculty on any library research or service questions they might have.

Heather Shalhoub (she/her) manages the library's web presence, user experience, and systems, and also maintains the library's many online databases. She is the library liaison to Information Technology Services and SUNY Library Systems (SLS). Students, faculty, and staff with research questions or concerns about technical issues with library resources are welcome to book with Heather.
