MLA Micro-course

Using hands-on practice, learn how to create in-text and Works Cited citations, as well as craft paraphrases and summaries of source material.

Questions to consider:

  • Does my assignment ask me to format the entire paper in MLA style?
  • What font, font size and spacing should I use?
  • How do I create a hanging indent?

MLA Paper Format Basics:

  • Use a 12-point font (Arial or Times New Roman)
  • Double space entire paper. No extra space between paragraphs.
  • 1 inch margins on all sides.
  • Indent first line of each paragraph 1/2 inch (or 5 spaces)
  • No title page unless requested by instructor. Put your name, instructor, course number and date in upper left of first page.
  • Paper title is centered (DO NOT use underline, quotation marks or CAPS for this)
