Searching Sage Journals Online

Searching

We do not have access to full-text for all Sage journals. Limit your search to "Only Content I Have Full Access To."

You can also access “Open Access” content in Sage by clicking that option. Sage advanced search does not allow for a search of both options at the same time.

  1. The search box has a pull-down menu to the left of it.
    • All content - this is a basic keyword search
    • Title - search for the article by title (put it in quotation marks)
    • Author (last name) - search for the article's author by last name
    • Journal name - search for the title of the journal that the article is in
    • Keyword
    • Abstract - searches the abstracts
    • Affiliation
    • Sage Journals does not have a Controlled Vocabulary search option.

  1. + and - sign options on the right of the search boxes gives you the ability to add search term boxes.
  2. You can also use AND, OR, NOT, quotation marks and parentheses inside the search boxes:
    • Put quotation marks around any search phrase or exact combination of keywords (e.g.; "United States of America" or "social psychology").
    • Use AND between two keywords or phrases to search for articles containing both terms. (e.g.; Sumatra and tsunami).
    • Use OR between keywords to search for articles containing either term (e.g.; teaching or pedagogy).
    • For more information about keyword searching with Boolean Operators, see Using AND, OR & NOT to Combine Keywords.
    • By default, SAGE Journals puts an AND in between the search boxes. You can use the pull-down menus to to change it.
    • Boolean-savvy users: EBSCOhost treats each search box like a giant set of parentheses.
  3. Advanced Search tips are found in the right hand sidebar.
  4. You can limit your search to articles that were published within a certain date range.

Advanced search also has options for:

  • citation search: enter journal information to find a specific article
  • recent searches
  • saved searches: Be sure to log in to your account to save searches and have access to saved searches

Your Search Results List

Sage's search results list is organized differently from most other databases.

  2. To view Article Information, click the Abstract link underneath the search result you want.
  3. To view the full-text article, click the Full Text (PDF) link underneath the search result you want.
  4. Utilize the left hand side bar to further limit results by subject, publication date and article type.

 Article Information

Once you have clicked on Abstract, you will be taken to the Article Information page.

  1. The journal title is featured prominently at the top.
  2. The journal volume, issue, permalink and  article title are immediately below the journal title.
  3. Options: to see an outline of contents, download, cite, share, find information  rights, see metrics and citations pertaining to the article, and see only figures and tables from the article.
  4. Abstract, which is a summary of the article's content.
