How To Use Nexis Uni: Legal

LexisNexis Academic is a major database for: 1. business research (company profiles, industry info, etc.) 2. Legal research (cases, statutes, law review articles) 3. Newspapers

There are several options for searching or browsing legal sources, such as case law, statutes and codes, and law reviews. The best way to do this is to click the 'Legal' tab near the top of the Nexis Uni home page: Nexis Uni home page showing the tabs near the top to search within specific part of the database. Legal is highlighted.

If you have the name of a specific legal case, you can search from the home page. Example: Brown v Board of Education - then, on the results page, on the left, select 'Cases' from the limit options shown there.

Once in the Legal section, you have several more options to either search by keyword, or limit by category using the tabs lower down the page, such as by Content type, Federal (e.g. Supreme or Circuit Courts), State or International case law, or by practice area or industry (e.g. Bankruptcy, Labor, or Constitutional Law): Nexis Uni Legal page showing search box with "Witness tampering" typed in, and category browse options below that.

If you choose a category, such Content Type or Federal, you can view the options available under that. Click the 'i' to the right of any option for a brief description of that option.
