We have been getting asked this question a lot at the SUNY Empire library.
Is this for a psychology course like cultural psychology? If it is, then you want to search in the databases listed on the Psychology & Sociology Subject Guide.
You can find the guide by going to the library homepage. From there, click on Subject Guides and select Psychology & Sociology from the list.
When you get to the guide, you will see a list of the best library databases to search in for psychology & sociology topics. For a psychology course, I suggest starting at the top of the list with PsycARTICLES.
When you get to PsycARTICLES, select Advanced Search below the search box.
On the Advanced Search screen, type the different culture in the top line, then your own culture in the next line down. Scroll down and check the box for Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Articles. Then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and hit search.
Scroll way down to find the Search button, or you can use the search button at the top of the page by your search words.
When you get to the search results list, click on the title of an article to view the Detailed Record. If you need the article to be a study, look for Methodology listed on the record. If it says it is a type of study, like Empirical Study and/or Quantitative Study for example, that should be what you need.
You may have to scroll way down to find Methodology.
If you still need help finding an article on this topic or if it is for a different type of course, ask a librarian and let us know what course it is for. Knowing what type of course an assignment is for often changes where we suggest you look for an article.
